 Another major effort to unify IPTV services is an ETSI and ITU-T project to develop IPTV standards based on IMS. This standard allows telecommunications companies to provide TV and Internet broadcast services over the same infrastructure. It combines traditional TV service with features like caller ID on the screen.

IPTV history 

The term IPTV first appeared in 1995 with the creation of Precept Software. Precept has developed an online video product called IP / TV. It was a Windows and Unix-based application that transferred single-source and multi-source audio and video traffic from low quality to DVD quality. Precept was acquired by Cisco Systems in 1998. Cisco maintains the IP / TV brand.
